They say Christmas is a time for giving and receiving. Well, with ‘The Little Mermaid’ and Nyhavn, Copenhagen receives many tourists, and when Christmas approaches, the Danish capital knows how to give that little bit more.
According to Holidu’s list, which ranked the 100 most festive European citiesCopenhagen is number five.
And once again, no Swedish or Norwegian city could finish ahead of the Danish capital. Stockholm is sixth and Oslo tenth in a ranking topped by Berlin.
Lots of suggestions
“In the heart of Den Gamle By you will find the Christmas market at Højbro Plads. Known for its ‘international touch’, it is modeled after a traditional German Christmas market with everything from waffles to Glühwein,” wrote Holidu.
“If you’re up for a thrill, check out the market in the second-oldest amusement park in the world, Tivoli! If you’re into tradition, check out Julemarked Kongens Nytorv! You’re sure to find the perfect market for you in Copenhagen this winter season.”
Aarhus also in the top 50
Another Danish city was voted among the most festive cities in Europe: Aarhus.
Topkær Julestue, Møllestien and Den Gamle By were among the recommended markets.
The second largest city in the country is ranked number 45, three places after Gothenburg.
