Young and Poor – Fatma’s Broken Shoes | Part 1/3

The friends go on holiday, shopping and swimming. Fatma herself remains on her farm in Biskopsgården, Gothenburg, and cannot even afford a tram ticket. This is the story of a Sweden where every fifth child lives at risk of poverty – and where the summer holidays can be the worst time of the year.

About child poverty in Sweden

Every fifth child in Sweden grows up in what is called a risk of poverty or relative poverty. This means that the family’s income is below 60 percent of the median income in the country. Among children of parents born abroad, many of whom are in Biskopsgården, the figures are even higher.

Young and Poor is a three-part documentary series by Ulrika Nandra.

Producer: Martin Jonsson
