However, temperatures are predicted to drop just before Christmas. Also in southern Finland, the mercury is predicted to drop below zero and the possibility of snowfall will recede.
– On Christmas Eve, the situation is interesting, commented Saarikalke. “The lower part of the low pressure system is probably moving so that it just barely touches the southern parts of the country and can bring rain in different forms. At the moment, [the rains] looks like it’s going to be quite snowy.”
On Friday, 5–10 centimeters of new snow may fall in the regions of southern Finland. However, Saarikka was reminded that the direction of the rains is somewhat uncertain: it is still possible that there will be no snow on the ground in Varsinais-Suomi at Christmas.
“If there are storm tracks next to Varsinais-Suomen on Christmas Eve, it is possible that there will be no snow at all. However, I think it is quite likely that Christmas will snow in different parts of the country, including in the south-west.
The weather on Christmas Eve should be clear, between -2°C and -10°C in the southern and western parts and possibly below -10°C in the central and northern parts of the country.
