The US dollar rises as the pound, the yen falls

NEW YORK, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) — The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trade Wednesday amid weakness in the British pound and the .

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, rose 0.16 percent to 104.1810.

In late New York trading, the euro fell to US$1.0613 from US$1.0617 in the previous session, and the British pound fell to US$1.2084 from US$1.2162 in the previous session.

The US dollar bought 132.24 Japanese yen, higher than 131.58 Japanese yen from the previous session. The US dollar fell to 0.9262 Swiss francs from 0.9266 Swiss francs, and it traded at 1.3610 Canadian dollars, unchanged from the previous session. The US dollar fell to SEK 10.4152 from SEK 10.4374.
