Constitution Minister Angus Robertson said:
“The damage caused by Brexit is only increasing. In the two years since the end of the transition period, we have not seen the benefits of leaving the European Union. The cost of living crisis and recession are being felt more deeply in the UK than anywhere else, with recent research showing UK food bills are £210 higher over the past two years because of Brexit. Low-income households suffer the most.
“The UK economy is fundamentally on the wrong track and there is no real alternative under the current system. The Scottish Government is committed to giving the people of Scotland a choice of the future they want – a greener, more prosperous and fairer economy in the European Union or a slower and stagnant economy outside the European Union. We will continue to publish Building a New Scotland leaflets to ensure people can make an informed choice.
“According to the Office for Budget Responsibility, UK GDP is expected to be 4% lower as a result of Brexit – equivalent to around £100bn of output and a £40bn loss in public revenue each year. Businesses will suffer from reduced exports to the EU, labor shortages and recruitment challenges. These issues are affecting also to the NHS, and new research from the Nuffield Trust shows that falling EU immigration is exacerbating staff shortages.
“Scotland is and has always been a proud European nation and we have decided to continue to be an active and constructive participant in EU affairs, which will facilitate Scotland’s future return to the EU. This is in stark contrast to the approach taken by the UK Government to undermine existing EU law, which will be extremely damaging to people and businesses in Scotland.
