On Christmas morning, a 27-year-old man is shot dead in Rinkeby and this will be the start of a spiral of violence in southern Stockholm in particular, including several explosions that will take place at the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023 – and in this episode we will do our best to to explain what is happening and why.
Because at the same time this is happening, the trial against the man who is suspected of being the mastermind behind the kidnapping of Einár is going on. A 39-year-old who has been in hiding since 2020 but was arrested in Bulgaria last year. The 27-year-old who was shot in Rinkeby was in turn suspected of involvement in the murder of Einár and several other people who were connected to the violent acts around Christmas/New Year have also figured in the investigations into the crimes against Einár. So is it a coincidence or is there a connection?
Both perpetrators and victims in this spiral of violence have in several cases been rappers, and we talk to music journalist Petter Hallén about the culture and the increasingly harsh climate in gangster rap – but also about Einár’s lyrics in particular, which was his way of communicating outwardly how he felt and what he has been involved in. Texts that the prosecutor came to use during the kidnapping trial.
