The Winter World University Games is the world’s largest multi-sport sporting event in winter. A total of 1,443 athletes from 46 countries and regions will participate in the Winter Universiade, which features 86 events in 12 disciplines, according to the International University Sports Federation (FISU) website.
The 25-member Chinese team will compete in 11 events in short track speed skating, women’s curling and snowboarding. Han Yu, a curler from Beijing Sport University, was China’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony.
“I will do my best to achieve good results,” said Han, also captain of the curling team. “Our opponents are very strong, especially Canada, the USA, Sweden and Japan.”
The Chinese curling team arrived in Lake Placid to prepare for their opening match against Spain on Friday. China will participate in all nine short track speed skating events starting on January 19. Chinese snowboarders will participate in parallel giant slalom on January 21.
The 2023 Winter Universiade runs from January 12 to 22, with alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, Nordic combined, short track skating, ski jumping, snowboarding and figure skating. .
