On January 19, 2022, the moderate-led government announces at a press conference that it is preparing to send the Archer artillery system to Ukraine – a system that has been high on Ukraine’s wish list for months.
– I would say that it has much less significance than we think, says Patrik Oksanen, security policy expert, who is linked to the business-financed think tank Frivärld.
More than just Archer
What the experts are reacting to is the government’s announcement that Ukraine will also receive up to 50 combat vehicles 90 and anti-tank robot 57.
– If around fifty come to Ukraine, it actually makes a difference. It is quite a big difference, an important difference, says Tomas Ries, researcher at the Norwegian Defense Academy.
