NEW YORK, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) — The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trade Monday amid weakness in the British pound and the Japanese yen.
The dollar index, which measures the dollar against six major peers, rose 0.1 percent to 102.1140.
In late New York trading, the euro was up at US$1.0860 from US$1.0854 in the previous session, and the British pound was down at US$1.2371 from US$1.2396 in the previous session.
The US dollar bought 130.66 Japanese yen, higher than 129.59 Japanese yen from the previous session. The US dollar rose to 0.9223 Swiss francs from 0.9204 Swiss francs and it eased to 1.3383 Canadian dollars from 1.3384 Canadian dollars. The US dollar weakened to SEK 10.2548 from SEK 10.2867.
