For one in ten children in Sweden, home is not a safe place, but a place where violence has become part of their everyday life. It is often a well-kept secret, but in judgments and preliminary investigations, you can read about children who call 112, children who hide, protect their siblings and go between them at the risk of their own lives.
Joel and Olle have a secret with their father. He beats them when mother Karin is not there, and he beats her in front of them.
Great trauma for children who witness violence
Seeing a loved one being subjected to violence is at least as harmful to the children as if they themselves are beaten. Olle and Joel carry a great deal of trauma and when the police came and arrested their father, the children and mother were taken away from everything.
Today, Karin and her sons have a new life in a new place, but still live with deep scars.
The names in the documentary are fictitious.
