– The worst thing I know is when adults use the word cringe, says Belmin Nuhic23, presenter at Juniornyheterna.
He explains that no young person uses the words, cringe, cool or swag anymore and explains what the more viable words gähda, ströga and ajde mean.
Many of the words young people use today come from cultural phenomena such as social media, epadunk and gaming. Language use that is typical of a particular age group is called chronolect.
– It’s really two things, partly how your language reveals your age, but also how your own language changes over time, it can be about how the vocal cords change, says Susanna Karlsson docent in Nordic languages.
