Never mind the Battle of the Bands, or the Battle of the Bastards – the beginning of March 2023 will henceforth be known as the ‘Battle of the Venues’, as Denmark’s leading festival, theme park and concert promoter have done their very best to outdo each other in the race of the last 24 hours.
Post always delivers
The Royal Arena kicked things off yesterday with confirmation that GRAMMY-nominated Dallas rapper Post Malone will bring his Twelve Carat Tour to the Amager venue on April 26.
The tickets cost between DKK 450 and DKK 695 and start on Friday 3 March at noon livenation.dk or ticketmaster.dk. ONE Option for Live Nation presale starts a day earlier, also from 12.00.
The announcement came at a good time for the Royal Arena, as it had to confirm yesterday cancellation of two Justin Bieber concerts.
Undoubtedly the best in the world
Not to be outdone, Roskilde Festival responded with its own rapper only hours later: arguably the biggest in the world, although Eminem would still have something to say about it.
Kendrick Lamar was one of 16 new names confirmed for this year’s program – in what will be his first visit since 2015, despite being booked for both the canceled 2020 and 21 editions.
Caroline Polachek, Weyes Blood and Josefine Opsahl are among the other 15 acts confirmed for the festival, which this year kicks off in earnest on June 28 after a four-day warm-up.
Going to be heavily smoked on the water
And then Tivoli came up with something of a coup: The legendary rockers Deep Purple will perform as part of their Friday Rock line-up on June 9 – ‘Smoke on the Water’ takes on new meaning and overlooks the theme park’s famous lake.
Most of the early 70s line-up is still on board, including Ian Gillan (vocals), Roger Glover (bass) and Ian Paice (drums), so this is an incredible opportunity to see a legendary band for just DKK 225 – a new standard Friday Rock admission price introduced this year to curb overcrowding.
Also registered for Fredagsrock are Jada, Tobias Rahim and Eee Gee and Soleimam, who will start this year’s season together on April 14.
