This is how Anonymous Sudan and Russian hackers attack Sweden

In February 2023, websites belonging to large Swedish companies, authorities and institutions will be shut down. Among other things, SAS, SVT, several universities and hospitals are affected.

It soon becomes clear that the hacker group Anonymous Sudan is behind the overload attacks.

– My first reaction was “yeah, right”, and quite a lot of skepticism that this would really be a movement from Sudan, says IT security expert Leif Nixon.

Suspect links to Russia

The company Truesec, which works with data security, highlights another actor behind Anonymous Sudan, the hacker group Killnet. A group that is clearly pro-Russian, and has carried out several attacks against countries that support Ukraine.

– It follows a fairly clear Russian modus operandi in that the Russian intelligence service has long worked with aggressive cyber operations in many different ways, says Per-Erik Nilsson, researcher at the Total Defense Research Institute, FOI.

Much therefore points to the group Anonymous Sudan being part of something bigger than the protests against the Koran burnings.
