Defense Minister on leave with confidence that he will return … at some point

The government was dealt a blow in February when Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Jakob Ellemann-Jensen took an unexpected leave of absence after a bout of stress.

Troels Lund Poulsen quickly stepped in as Acting Defense Minister, and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen yesterday appointed Stephanie Lose as Acting Minister of Economy to cover Poulsen, who has held both posts since Ellemann-Jensen resigned.

A few hours later, Ellemann-Jensen wrote in a post on social media that his health was improving and that he was looking forward to returning to the government hall again.

When exactly that will be is still up in the air.

“I am also aware that I have to be ready before I go back to work. Because I know very well that you cannot lie at 50 percent when you are a minister or party leader,” said Ellemann-Jensen on Facebook.

Message from Mette
The Liberal leader said appointing Lose as finance minister would ease the burden on Poulsen and give him more time to focus on defense matters.

Frederiksen said she hoped her colleague would soon return to Christiansborg.

“We miss Jakob. We are a collective โ€“ we are also three parties that have somewhat unconventionally decided to form this government.โ€ said the prime minister to DR Nyheder.
