The representation of women on the boards of top EU companies exceeds 32%, and Finland is high in leadership diversity

Finland is among the top countries in the EU with the representation of women in boards and management groups, along with the other Nordic countries. The report shows that Iceland, Norway and France are the most successful countries in terms of women’s representation in boards and management teams, while Sweden and Finland are the next countries. The report also emphasizes that self-regulation has led Finland and Sweden to the top positions, while quota legislation has not necessarily increased the representation of women in management positions in many other countries.

The report states that the representation of women as CEOs and board chairmen is still very low, and in Finland, for example, only one in ten board chairmen of listed companies are women. Although the share of women in board positions in Finland is relatively large, the chairmen of boards in Finland are still mainly men. According to the report, only 9 percent of CEOs of listed companies in Finland are women. Overall, the report highlights the need to continue efforts to promote gender equality in the business world, as quota legislation alone is not sufficient to achieve this goal.
