Ekot’s crime reporter Simon Andrén gives the story of Sweden’s new sex purchase law.
After “Operation Torsk” there was a debate about the purchase of sex and the law was changed so that the fine penalty was removed. Imprisonment is now the law’s only punishment. But after a number of cases have been tried, still no one has been jailed for just buying sex. The sex buyers instead receive a fine and a suspended sentence. A fine which is also usually lower than it was before the change in the law.
