Former US President Donald Trump is indicted in the state of New York on suspicion of crimes in connection with a payment to porn actress Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels.
Trump himself denies all the accusations and believes that this is part of a political campaign. That image is shared by large parts of the Republican Party, which is rallying behind the former president.
Democratic politicians believe that if criminal investigation authorities make the assessment that a crime has been committed, it is good that charges are brought, and that it shows that no one is above the law.
How will the indictment affect Trump’s political prospects? And what does that mean for him legally?
