EMMA’s head curator responsible for exhibitions is responsible for the development and management of the museum’s exhibition projects. The chief curator leads the Exhibition Working Group and is a member of the steering group.
Ingrid Orman’s merits include her accurate vision of the future development of EMMA’s exhibitions, as well as proven experience in project management, curation and cooperation with artists. Orman is currently a curator in the Exhibitions team, before which he was a producer and curator in the Education team. Before joining EMMA, he worked, among other things, as program manager of the Estonian Institute of Finland. He is an art historian by training and has an MFA in exhibition studies from the University of the Arts’ Helsinki Praxis program.
“Under Ingrid’s leadership, I look forward to developing our exhibitions in an original and distinctive direction, combining EMMA’s unique local characteristics and strengths with a multi-voice presentation of international art. I believe that both our domestic and international visitors expect bold rhythms from us”, says the museum director Cloud Kalhama.
“I want to be involved in building the future of museums and I believe that ethical responsibility is something that will grow in importance in the future. EMMA has good opportunities to be a pioneer in this regard. In my new role, I will focus on promoting diversity, ecological sustainability and polyphonic curation: the artists we choose to give voice and space in our museum are crucial in shaping the story we are helping to build. EMMA has offered me the opportunity to develop versatile professional skills, and I’m looking forward to deepening my contribution in my new role as curator responsible for exhibitions”, enthuses Orman.
EMMA is one of the largest art museums in Finland. It is supported by the Espoo Art Museum Foundation. The focus of its collections and exhibitions is on domestic and international modernism, contemporary art and design.
