The new charging stations offer a wider network of charging points around Helsinki, which facilitates the daily use of electric cars in the city.
“Various charging options are available, from standard charging to high-power charging. Thanks to several options, electric car drivers can choose a charging point according to their power needs. Charging points are also offered more widely, including for taxi services,” commented Jesse SuosalmiHelen’s Public Download Network Product Group Manager.
The electrification of traffic is a key part of Helsinki’s emission reduction goals. Traffic accounts for about a fifth of the city’s carbon dioxide emissions, so the development of public charging infrastructure supports the achievement of these goals.
In Helsinki’s city strategy for the years 2021-2025, the electrification of transport plays a significant role in achieving the goal of carbon neutrality by 2030. The transition to electric vehicles is promoted with various Helsinki programs, including the Carbon Neutral Helsinki action plan, Helsinki’s air protection. plan, city parking policy and noise abatement plan.
By expanding the public charging network, Helsinki aims to encourage more residents and visitors to choose electric vehicles, which promotes a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment. With the increasing availability of charging infrastructure, the city takes a significant step forward in supporting the introduction of electric mobility and reducing carbon dioxide emissions from traffic.
