Juhani SandPirha’s executive director stated at the press conference yesterday that the cost savings are generated by arrangements affecting retirement and temporary employees and not primarily by layoffs, reported YLE.
Negotiations for approximately 20,000 employees will begin next Monday, September 18. The news of the negotiations has been a shock to both employees and trusteesaccording to previous reports by the public broadcaster.
Another key cost-saving measure is the reorganization of the service network, namely by closing health centers and wards. Pirha in August was revealed that it intends to close the Ikaalist and Kuhmoinen wards in June 2024 and the Ruovesi, Mänttä-Vilppula, Orivesi and Pirkkala wards by 2030.
The county stated yesterday that it is also investigating opportunities to achieve cost savings by updating service procurement contracts and reducing the use of both temporary workers and rented premises. The share of temporary workers has increased drastically in the county, and its costs are 26 million euros.
“It’s gotten out of hand recently and we’d like to start limiting the use of temporary workers,” Marina ErholaPirha’s CEO was quoted saying on Monday YLE.
The negotiations will also explore ways to improve productivity, reduce duplication, give up non-statutory tasks and transfer personnel from administrative and management tasks to customer and patient tasks, the public broadcasting company summarized.
