A total of 4,114 applicants applied to Diak with a joint application, of which 1,182 chose Diak as their first choice. Of these, 400 applicants expressed their interest in the programs at the Oulu campus, and 112 of them chose Oulu as their top choice. Particularly noteworthy is the popularity of Oulu’s bachelor’s program in Social Sciences, where 268 applicants compete for a place, of which 78 are priority applicants.
In particular, Diak’s fully online Bachelor’s program in Social Sciences emerged as the most attractive option for all applicants.
In the autumn joint application, the number of applicants increased by almost 20% compared to the previous year, and the number of primary applicants increased explosively by 33% compared to 2022.
Elina JuntunenThe CEO and Rector of Diak expressed his joy at the increase in applicants and stated: “The increase in the number of applicants makes us extremely happy. Finland truly needs professionals graduating from Diak who have the skills to make an impact. It’s great to see that our field of study is considered meaningful and attractive.”
Students’ choice
The second round of the joint application process continues with the students’ selection. Students are primarily selected for programs leading to a university of applied sciences degree based on the AMK entrance exam and certificate selection.
Diak’s programs in the social and health care and church sectors use the joint AMK entrance exam of universities of applied sciences all over Finland. More information about the AMK selection exam can be found at Ammatikorkeakouluun.fi website. Diak’s AMK entrance exams are organized at its campuses in Helsinki, Oulu and Pori. Applicants choose the place and time of the exam from the options on the joint application form. Prospective test-takers who decide to take the test at Diak can find more information about the test AMK selection exam page.
The nursing program tailored for nursing practitioners does not participate in the AMK selection exam. Instead, it uses a two-part selection course, and more information about this process can be found here here.
In Finnish-language social and healthcare programs leading to a university of applied sciences degree, 40% of students are selected based on certificate selection. This criterion does not apply to Diak’s nursing education for those with a practical nursing background.

The results of the certificate selection will be notified to the applicants no later than 18 October 2023.
