About two-thirds of the remaining characters were of color, a quarter were sexual minorities, and less than 0.5 percent were gender minorities or disabled.
The data were compiled by students of films and television programs at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
The study also found that most minority roles were small, with only a few lines and scenes. In addition, the roles were irrelevant to the progress of the story, and they had background narratives that not only agreed with the prevailing stereotypes of that minority group, but also seemed to tell the background.
On Friday, APFI drew attention to the importance of continuing the debate on diversity on the screen, adding that it will work to ensure that the debate also leads to concrete action.
