Die Regierung wird die Arbeit des Folketing wieder einschläfern

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) and the government will again have put the work of the Folketing on hold in part due to the situation with covid-19.

For the time being, this must apply until the winter holidays in mid-February. It appears from a letter that the Prime Minister has sent to the Speaker of the Folketing, Henrik Dam Kristensen (S).

Out of 28 bills already submitted, which are planned to be considered in the Folketing until the winter holidays, the government wants to postpone the consideration of 12 of the bills until after the winter holidays, the letter reads.

– In addition, based on the December report, the government expects to present an additional 25 bills in the coming weeks, a good part of which would normally be put to first reading before the winter holidays.

– In order to contribute to lower activity, however, the government in the current serious situation only wants four of these to be treated before the winter holidays, writes Mette Frederiksen.

In the letter, however, the Prime Minister points out that it may be necessary to urgently consider bills related to the handling of covid-19.

As before, you will be informed separately about such proposals as the need arises, Mette Frederiksen writes to Henrik Dam Kristensen.

The decision to partially close down the work of the Folketing will be discussed on Wednesday at a meeting of the Committee on the Rules of Procedure in the Folketing. Henrik Dam Kristensen is chairman of the committee.

According to Kristeligt Dagblad, both the Liberal Party and the Unity List support a new partial closure. This was also done by the Folketing last year to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Thus, there is a majority for the government’s plan.

– We have a latent corona threat all over Denmark. It would probably be totally naive to think that Christiansborg is an island that is exempt from the corona.

– That is why we have to take our precautions, just as we do in private workplaces and elsewhere, says Preben Bang Henriksen (V), chairman of the Parliament’s Legal Committee, to Kristeligt Dagblad.

The Danish People’s Party, on the other hand, is against a partial closure.
