Third-seeded Coco Gauff defeated No. 5 seed and American teenager Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday to reach the Emilia-Romagna Open semifinals in Parma, Italy.

The first meeting between Gauff, 17, and Anisimova, 19, on a professional level lasted one hour and 21 minutes, with Gauff breaking Anisimova’s serve six times and saving four of seven break points.

Gauff’s semi-final opponent will be Czech Katerina Siniakova, a 7-5, 6-1 winner against Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, No. 8. Unseeded American Sloane Stephens advanced to her first semi-final in two years with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Italy Sara Errani. Stephens meets No. 6 seed Qiang Wang from China, who surpassed No. 2 Petra Martic in Croatia 7-6 (4), 3-6, 7-5.

Colombian teenager Maria Camila Osorio Serrano collected for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory against Russian Kamilla Rakhimova at the end of a suspended match in the second round in Belgrade.

The match was canceled on Wednesday after Rakhimova took the first set. Osorio Serrano, 19, meets Aliaksandra Sasnovich from Belarus in the quarterfinals.

On Thursday, Rebecca Peterson, Sweden’s No. 7, also advanced after opponent Ajla Tomljanovic from Australia retired in the third set, and Croatia’s Ana Konjuh swept No. 2 seed Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan 6-3, 6-4.
