– No one could guess how fast it would go. But it has been quick to get the infrastructure and international cooperation up and running, says Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) about the Danish evacuation effort in Afghanistan at the press conference.
The planning has been going on for a long time, adds Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod (S).
We have been working on the situation in Afghanistan since April, when it was decided that the military withdrawal should take place.
Over the course of the week, several politicians have criticized the government’s efforts. Among others, Karsten Hønge, who is foreign affairs spokesman for SF, has stated to Berlingske that the seriousness of the situation has long been warned.
– We have warned a long time ago that we should get started immediately with evacuating interpreters and employees at the embassy, he said to Berlingske on Monday.
