WTA-Compilation: Anett Kontaveit rollt beim Auftakt von Chicago

Anett Kontaveit, who came from a championship race in Ostrava, Czech Republic, last week, won her opening match on Tuesday in the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic.

The 11th seeded Estonian beat USA’s Madison Brengle 6-4, 6-3 in 84 minutes.

Kontaveit put only 63 percent of their first serve into play and lost three service matches, but she was able to break Brengle’s serve five times.

Other winners in the first round included Elise Mertens from seventh, Belgium, 14th seeded Victoria Azarenka from Belarus, 15th seeded Camila Giorgi from Italy and 16th seeded Jil Teichmann from Switzerland.

Second-seeded Garbine Muguruza of Spain and sixth-seeded Ons Jabeur of Tunisia won straight set wins in the second round, while 10-seeded Danielle Collins of the United States advanced to the third round with a three-set victory.

Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan recorded today’s outrage and gathered past the fourth seeded Greet Minnen from Belgium 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the first round in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

The other seeded players in action all advanced to the second round, led by the best seed. Yulia Putintseva, who played in her home country, led Georgia’s Ekaterine Gorgodze 6-1, 6-2.

Winners were also Kristina Mladenovic from France, fifth-seeded Ana Konjuh from Croatia, Rebecca Peterson, sixth seeded and Clara Burel from France.
